I'm trying to save an Access 2007 database into 2003 format, but every time
I try I get an error that says, "Could not use <filename>, file already in
use." Granted it is right, the file is open Access 2007 to save it, but
that is it. Please help, I need to get this file out the door to someone
who has Access 2003.

Thanks

Paul

Hi Paul,

Are you trying to save it as the exact same file name? If so, you
cannot do that. Save it as a different file name. If that is not the issue,
an alternative would be to create a new 2002/2003 database and import all of
the objects from the 2007 database into it. Then make sure to set your
references if you have any VBA code to match those in the 2007 database.

Clifford,

I was trying to save it in a different name and still got the before
mentioned problem.

I was successful with your workaround. Thank you for the idea.

Hi Paul,

Good to hear you were successful. You are welcome.

I am now having a memory of a similar issue, only going the other way.
I would get an error and it would not let me convert from 2003 to 2007. The
issue turned out to be the Switchboard. Somehow, that would sort-of lock the
database from being converted. Even though I had not done anything other
than opened the database. The solution was to open the database while
holding down the <Shift> key so that no code would run and no forms would
open. Then it would allow me to convert. You may want to test that if you
have a form that opens up or code that runs when the database is opened.
