SQL server licenses needed for Back End Access

I have an Access front end application that links to Access Back end tables
located on a server. The Front End application is used by approx. 50 users,
some internal and some thru Term Server. I am planning to convert the
Backend access database to SQL server, but I am confused as to the version of
SQL server to purchase and the licensing required. Will I need a user
license for all 80 users ?
Can I create one SQL server login that all users are aliased to and consider
that one user license?

Thanks,
Karen

Hi,
you can try to use a free SQL server express 2005, but looks like you need
to buy a standard version then.

Hi Alex,

I figured I would need either workgroup or standard, but I really wanted to
know how the licensing works? If the users are linking to the back end SQL
Server , or if the front end executes a pass trhough query to sql server that
uses the same user id every time, do I need 80 User licences or just one for
the users?

Thanks,
Karen

Hi,
I think you need 80 users license, but better ask company, which sells SQL
Server, they will know better

AFAIK - there are 2 kind of licenses - per seat and per processor, so only
knowing details and price of each you can decide which one is best for you
